Lakers have ‘inquired’ with Wizards about $45 million former Celtics guard

The Los Angeles Lakers may have given up on the idea of acquiring a superstar before February 6, but trading for more scoring remains a necessity.

If LA continues to rely on LeBron James and Anthony Davis to carry the load, both guys will be gassed by the time the playoffs roll around.

Lakers GM Rob Pelinka is aware of this situation. That’s why Pelinka has reportedly been talking to the Washington Wizards about a trade, per Forbes’ Evan Sidery.

“The Lakers have recently inquired on Malcolm Brogdon in trade talks with the Wizards,” Sidery posted to X on Saturday.

“Los Angeles is a team to watch potentially acquiring both Brogdon and Jonas Valanciunas from Washington.”

Snagging Brogdon alone would be massive for the Lakers. He’s a former Sixth Man of the Year (with the Boston Celtics in 2022-23) who at 32 years old is still playing at an elite level.

But if Pelinka could somehow pull off acquiring both Brogdon and Valančiūnas, LA would be in optimal position for a playoff run.

The Lakers were owners of a three-game winning streak entering Sunday and stood at 16-12, good for fifth place in the West.
